Bryan McCann is Professor of Latin American History and Chair of the History Department at Georgetown University. His books include Hello, Hello Brazil: Popular Music in the Making of Modern Brazil (Duke, 2004) and Hard Times in the Marvelous City: From Dictatorship to Democracy in the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro (Duke, 2014). He has written extensively about Brazilian music, particularly the samba and choro traditions of Rio de Janeiro.
