— Announcing a cameo performance by Carlos Olivares, the 2018 Grand Prize Winner of the Beatty Music Scholarship Competition, at our April 21, 2018 concert. —
Carlos Olivares has been playing the classical guitar for almost five years. He is a junior in the Potomac Falls Artist Ensemble under the direction of Hart Wells. He is now in his third year as a member of the PFHS Guitar Quartet and has performed at the Appalachian GuitarFest and the Peabody Conservatory. Carlos is also a member of the Loudoun Youth Guitars, a select student ensemble directed by Dr. Miroslav Loncar, with whom he also studies privately. With the group, he has performed at the National Institutes of Health, the Croatian Embassy, and the Kennedy Center. Carlos has participated in master classes with Elliott Frank, Matt Palmer, and Julian Gray. He has also won prizes in both the Aguado Guitar Competition and the Beatty Competition. Carlos enjoys playing golf as well and is on the PFHS golf team.
